Gerardo Francisco Jr.
Gerardo Francisco Jr. first ballet training was in Iloilo City. He was previously the dance master of Dagyaw Theatre and Dance Company, and an apprentice with Ballet Philippines.
He joined Ballet Manila as an apprentice in 2003. His repertoire includes The Nutcracker (Prince), Don Quixote (Basilio), Le Corsaire (Ali), La Bayadere (The Bronze Idol), Giselle (Peasant Pas de Deux), Swan Lake (Jester), Romeo and Juliet (Mercutio), La Fille Malle Gardee (Colas), The Swan, the Fairy and the Princess, Tatlong Kuwento ni Lola Basyang (Rodrigo), Agila, Arachnida, Reve, GOMBURZA, Reconfigured and Aramica.
He took part in Ballet Manila’s various tours including the US in 2004, the 2004 Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland, the 8th Asia Arts Fest. 2006 in China, the 2006 Angkor-Gyeongju World Culture Expo in Cambodia, 2007 Philippine Fiesta in Japan, the 2007 Gyeongju World Performing Arts Fest in Korea, the 11th International Future Dance Conference & Festival 2007 also in Korea, East Meets West UK and Ireland, 2011 Gyeongju World Culture Expo and the Andong Maskdance Festival 2011, both in Korea, the 2012 International Ten Drum Festival in Taiwan, and Flight! with Ballet Manila 2013 in Macau; Asian Grand Prix Flight in Hong Kong and Gyeongju Silk Road Festival Korea in 2015.
As a choreographer, he bagged the bronze medal in South Korea’s World Maskplay Contest for Morions, first place in the 2009 WifiBody Independent Contemporary Dance Festival New Choreographers Competition for Balikbayan (OFW) and Best Choreography in the 2008 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), Senior Division, for Bulag, Pipi at Bingi. He was a semi-finalist in the 2nd Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition, Choreography Division, held in China in July 2013, a semi-finalist in the Xth International Ballet Competition and Contest of Choreographers in Moscow, Russia in 2005 and a finalist in the 5th Japan Ballet Competition in Japan in 2005.
In 2016, he received the Outstanding Featured Male Dancer in Classical Dance and Lead Male in Modern Dance awards from Gawad Buhay of Philstage - the premiere performing arts award giving body.
In 2017, Francisco staged the world premiere of his first full length ballet Ibong Adarna as Ballet Manila's 22nd Season Opener.
