Offstage: A pose lovely as a tree

They just have to keep on dancing! Ballet Manila artists love their craft so much that even when they're away from the stage, they end up busting a move, trying out some steps or at least striking a ballet pose or two.

When Ballet Manila participated in the 2015 Silk Road Cultural Festival in Gyeongju, South Korea, its delegates had some time off to explore the surroundings. Soloist Tiffany Chiang-Janolo joined her BM colleagues in going around the gardens located near the open-air stage where they were to perform. And, as what usually happens, the dancers each had their moment executing their favorite poses. Here, under a sprawling canopy of branches and leaves, amid flowers and ornamental plants, Tiff found a flat piece of rock that would double as her mini-stage. The position she chooses is an attitude back. Yes, she agrees, they do tend to break out into dancers’ poses wherever they are. “I am not sure why we do it. Maybe for a bit of fun. But it seems to come naturally for us,” she smilingly confirms.
