What: Flexibility
Flexibility plays an important role in dance, particularly in having high extensions. It not only is important for the female dancers, but it also is increasingly so for the male dancers. Extensions, in dance, is the ability to raise and hold an extended leg in the air. Being flexible takes time, patience and lots of stretching. Most importantly, being flexible also requires the strength to be able to have control. Flexibility aids the dancer to raise the leg in the air to high heights. But strength, balance and proper alignment are also key to help the dancer execute high extensions safely and properly, particularly in classical ballet.
