Ballet Manila Moments: On pointe at the circus
Since 1995, Ballet Manila has been creating unforgettable performances on stage. As the acclaimed storytellers on toes, they have breathed life to an amazing range of classical and contemporary fare. The Ballet Manila Archives celebrates some of those moments from the company’s first 25 years through this series.
While every Ballet Manila dancer savored the experience of dancing on the expansive stage of Aliw Theater, there was a special kind of joy in performing at Star City where they were able to offer people their first glimpse of the wonders of ballet.
Ballet Manila benefactor and Manila Broadcasting Company chairman Fred Elizalde conceptualized Circus D'Ballet, a fun show that combined ballet with circus acts. Launched in 2001, the short program became a much-awaited attraction at the Star City Activity Center where park visitors could enjoy magic, acrobatic acts, and dance their hearts out as well.
