'Rise!' revisited

Ballet Manila celebrated its return to full live performances and the reopening of the newly refurbished Aliw Theater with Rise! on October 7 and 9.

The twin bill — meant to highlight the company’s technique in classical and contemporary ballet — featured its very popular Ballet & Ballads concert in the first half, and BM artistic director Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s La Traviata in the second half.

The company was joined on stage by pop singer Bituin Escalante and opera singers Jade Riccio, Ivan Nery and Chris Arceo, supported by a 12-voice ensemble. They were accompanied by a 60-piece orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga.
