'Dance for Shaz' revisited

Emotionally charged performances were rendered by 25 ballet companies and schools and dance professionals last weekend at the Aliw Theater in honor of Osias Barroso Jr. Led by Ballet Manila and its artistic director, Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, Dance for Shaz celebrated the life and achievements of the renowned danseur whose many contributions to the performing arts have shaped the careers of generations of dancers not just in the Philippines but in the Asian region as well.

The audience rose to its feet at the conclusion of the show, many teary-eyed, as Barroso was brought to the stage to join all the performers and artistic directors of the participating groups.

Complementing Dance for Shaz was the exhibition Osias Barroso Jr.: Ballerina’s Prince, at the Aliw Theater Lobby, featuring his accomplishments as a dancer, partner, choreographer and teacher.

This clip features highlights from the unique gathering of the Philippine dance community in appreciation of a danseur like no other.
