On Stage: The pirate, the damsel and the slave

One of the most awaited scenes in Le Corsaire brings together the hero Conrad, his beloved Medora and Conrad’s loyal servant Ali at the pirate’s cave in Act 2. Having just escaped the clutches of the Pasha, they join Conrad’s allies in a night of celebration where they then engage in a series of dancing feats capped by the trio’s iconic pose already so familiar to ballet audiences.

This clip excerpts the scene, featuring six Ballet Manila principal dancers playing the leads in the two casts of Lisa Macuja Elizalde’s Le Corsaire: Mark Sumaylo (Conrad), Abigail Oliviero (Medora) and Joshua Enciso (Ali); and Romeo Peralta Jr. (Conrad), Jasmine Pia Dames (Medora) and Gerardo Francisco Jr. (Ali).
