Change comes upon Florante though he is unaware of the challenges marching towards him. Summoned to aid his allies in war, he does not know that in the horizon awaits political instability, treason and betrayal in his own kingdom. But none of these threats dampen his spirits as he is in love and only Laura occupies his thoughts. 

It is in the midst of adversity that their love actually blooms and grows. While the men and women of Albania and Crotona prepare for battle, the protagonists of Francisco Baltazar’s epic, Florante at Laura, find themselves all giddy and aching for each other. War will come between them but in those brief moments together, something beautiful binds them and keeps them true to each other.

 In this video from the rehearsals of Ballet Manila’s Florante at Laura, the lovers share a tender moment. This piece, crafted by Martin Lawrance who is co-choreographing with BM’s co-artistic associate Gerardo Francisco Jr., is set to the music of National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab. Performing the title roles are principal dancers Abigail Oliveiro and Joshua Enciso.
