Offstage: A ‘Nutcracker’ moment
They just have to keep on dancing! Ballet Manila artists love their craft so much that even when they're away from the stage, they end up busting a move, trying out some steps or at least striking a ballet pose or two.
Although she hasn’t danced in The Nutcracker yet, soloist Jasmine Pia Dames has been captivated by the Christmas ballet for a long time and counts it as one of her favorites. Well, who wouldn’t, with such a magical tale that involves dancing snowflakes, toy soldiers battling it out with mice, a Sugar Plum Fairy and a nutcracker that transforms into a prince! What Pia loves best of all is the music of Tchaikovsky that weaves the story quite beautifully. No surprise then how thrilled she was to see this trio of giant nutcracker princes in a mall in her hometown of Biñan, Laguna. In an instant, the ballerina jumped to action, executing a step that’s known as an attitude. And that’s how Pia had her own Nutcracker moment.
