Under construction: Celebrating “ballet blanc” with Chopiniana

Under construction: Celebrating “ballet blanc” with Chopiniana

Bringing Ballet Manila's 23rd season to a close is Chopiniana which was first performed by the company in 2000.

Chopiniana is a nod to Ballet Manila’s Russian roots particularly since it was danced by ballet icons such as Anna Pavlova, Tamara Karsavina, Maria Baldina and Vaslav Nijinsky. A short and non-narrative “romantic reverie,” it depicts a lone danseur (The Poet) surrounded by his muses – white clad sylphs or air spirits, dancing in the moonlight.

Featured in this brief rehearsal clip are principal dancers Joan Emery Sia and Romeo Peralta, soloist Nicole Barroso, and company artist Rissa May Camaclang.
