In their own words: Eva Chatal on overcoming weakness

In their own words: Eva Chatal on overcoming weakness

In their own words, the artists of Ballet Manila share their thoughts and experiences on not merely surviving but flourishing in the very challenging world of dance. This series is a collection of personal anecdotes, as well as words of wisdom that can be heartwarming, funny or dramatic, but always inspiring regardless of what field one is pursuing.

It’s being aware in class of your weaknesses and having the courage [to recognize] that, okay, I’m not good at this. I’m gonna work at this! Especially after class, you just want to do your tricks and the things that you’re comfortable with. For me, turns are easier than jumps. I prefer to just practice turns. But if I’m honest with myself, I have to practice the jumps.

Sometimes that’s hard. Sometimes there are certain days when I’m like, Nah! I wanna feel good with myself! But sometimes, instead of practicing the things I feel comfortable with, I’m gonna practice the things I’m not so good at.
