Ballet Manila’s Le Corsaire through the years

Ballet Manila’s Le Corsaire through the years

Le Corsaire, the swashbuckling ballet on the adventures of a pirate named Conrad, is one of Ballet Manila’s favorite productions. The company was the first to perform the full-length, classical Russian version in Asia in 1998. Since then, it has become part of the regular season seven times.

Members of the company also perform excerpts of Le Corsaire during their tours and competitions. Among the most popular are the Ali Variation and the Pas D’Esclave which reaps much applause from the audience as the pieces highlight the dancers’ technique and artistry.

Featured in this slideshow are the souvenir programs of Ballet Manila’s Le Corsaire season productions through the years. As the company prepares for a new staging choreographed by artistic director Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, BM takes a moment to look back and appreciate its unique history with a pirate story.
