Florante at Laura returns to Aliw Theater

One of the most important literary pieces of the Philippines, Francisco Balagtas’ Florante at Laura has been presented in various artforms including the visual arts, film, television, stage plays, and musicals.

A first in Philippine history, Ballet Manila created a full-length ballet inspired by the Balagtas masterpiece which premiered in 2024. Choreographed by BM’s co-artistic associate Gerardo Francisco Jr. and guest choreographer Martin Lawrance to the original music of National Artist Ryan Cayabyab, it returned to the Aliw Theater this weekend, offering a visual feast with the masterful storytelling.

In this clip are excerpts from the world premiere, highlighting the technique and artistry of Ballet Manila with principal dancers Abigail Oliveiro and Joshua Enciso in the title roles of Florante and Laura, supported by principal dancer Stephanie Santiago and soloist Noah Esplana as Flerida and Aladin, and principal dancer Mark Sumaylo as Sultan Ali-Adab.
