A taste of China
With the celebration of Chinese New Year, Ballet Manila presents this Chinese-themed scene from one of the most popular ballets of all time – The Nutcracker. In the second act of this Christmas favorite, Clara and the Nutcracker Prince visit the Kingdom of Sweets where they are treated to a celebration of treats from around the world. The goodies -- chocolate from Spain, coffee from Arabia, tea from China and candy canes from Russia -- are represented in a series of dances by performers clad in costumes representative of each place. The Chinese snippet is a lively one, and with the performers dancing enthusiastically and smiling widely to the bouncy score, this scene is unsurprisingly one of the most cheered in The Nutcracker.
