It’s beginning to look – and sound – like Christmas! Like Santa’s merry elves, Ballet Manila has been helping to usher in the season upon the invitation of varied host venues for their grand holiday showcases. In this limited series, we feature how the company has been spreading some sparkly yuletide magic with the grace and glamor of ballet.

In the world of ballet, Christmas is synonymous to The Nutcracker. In this beloved tale, the Nutcracker Prince comes alive and together with the young girl Masha has all sorts of adventures, including battling the Mouse King and eventually being welcomed to The Land of Sweets by the Sugar Plum Fairy.

No wonder then that when Solaire Resort had its annual tree-lighting ceremony last November 7, The Nutcracker was the perfect choice for excerpts to be performed in its program.

Ballet Manila soloist Joshua Enciso and company artist Shaira Comeros were charming as the Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker Pas de Deux. Similarly enchanting was a presentation of the Chinese Dance, the Russian Dance and the Rose Waltz – contributing that spark and color to an amazing celebration.
