Two weeks in Jackson, Mississippi proved to be a historic occasion for Ballet Manila. It was the first time for the company to participate in the USA International Ballet Competition. Dancing for Team Ballet Manila were resident guest principal artists Katherine Barkman and Joseph Phillips (non-competing partner), and company artists Nicole Barroso and Joshua Enciso. With the four dancers were their coaches, Ballet Manila's co-artistic directors Lisa Macuja-Elizalde and Osias Barroso.
By the end of the competition, the audience was thoroughly impressed by the team's performances. Barkman won the the silver medal in the senior category. Barroso received the Jury Encouragement Award in the junior category.
