What: Bun

A ballet bun is the traditional hairstyle worn by female dancers. The purpose of this hairstyle is to keep the hair from getting in the way of the dancer. The hair is put up in an elegant, uniform bun which keeps the focus on the dancer and their dancing, not the hair. A ballet bun conveys an image of sophistication and grace and hence is required to be neat and secure. This can be done using hair elastics, various kinds of hair pins, a hair net, gel and/or hairspray. It completes the overall presentation of a ballet dancer, as it tops off an elegant line right at the top of the body.
