Ballet Dictionary: Ballerina

What: Ballerina
The term “Ballerina” was originally a title given to the principal female dancer of a ballet company. This meant that not all female dancers were called ballerinas then. Today, it is a name given to a female ballet dancer and the leading dancers of the company are instead called “principal dancers”.
