Ballet Manila Moments: The male corps of Ballet Manila
Since 1995, Ballet Manila has been creating unforgettable performances on stage. As the acclaimed storytellers on toes, they have breathed life to an amazing range of classical and contemporary fare. The Ballet Manila Archives celebrates some of those moments from the company’s first 25 years through this series.
As the Philippine celebration of World Ballet Day comes to a close, we put the spotlight on the male corps of Ballet Manila — young men who have chosen to don tights and carry the weight of the ballet literally and figuratively on their shoulders.
Through its scholarship program, Ballet Manila has also trained a higher than usual number of boys who have been welcomed as regular members of the company. Thus, BM has been able to stage many full-length ballets and choreographies that highlight the strength and virtuosity of men.
In this clip are excerpts from Carmen, Swan Lake and Don Quixote showcasing the male corps of Ballet Manila.
