Ballet Manila Moments: In love with Carmen
Since 1995, Ballet Manila has been creating unforgettable performances on stage. As the acclaimed storytellers on toes, they have breathed life to an amazing range of classical and contemporary fare. The Ballet Manila Archives celebrates some of those moments from the company’s first 25 years through this series.
Love is a common theme in ballet. Countless choreographies have explored its many facets. Arguably the most passionate is Carmen — the story of a fiery temptress and her tragic relationship with her lover Don Jose.
In this 2003 production, Ballet Manila principal dancers Lisa Macuja-Elizalde and Osias Barroso perform the sensuous pas de deux — a masterclass in the expression of passion through dance choreographed by the late Eric V. Cruz.
