Ballet Manila Moments: Tribute to a dance genius
In the world of classical ballet, there is one name that is considered truly iconic: the legendary Marius Petipa. The prolific choreographer has shaped and reshaped the face of this artform and his influence continues to find its way even in the most contemporary dance pieces today.
In celebration of his 204th birth anniversary, this video clip highlights four pieces that have been distinctively shaped by Petipa's genius. The selection — a tiny fraction of his enormous body of work — includes Ballet Manila's productions of Le Corsaire as performed by principal dancers Abigail Oliveiro and Mark Sumaylo (2018), Diane et Acteon as performed by principal dancer Jasmine Pia Dames and guest artist Hyuma Kiyosawa (2019), La Bayadere as performed by soloist Joshua Enciso and Akari Ida (2019) and The Nutcracker as performed by prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde and Rudy De Dios (2013).
