Ballet Manila Moments: Rey Valera on pointes

Since 1995, Ballet Manila has been creating unforgettable performances on stage. As the acclaimed storytellers on toes, they have breathed life to an amazing range of classical and contemporary fare. The Ballet Manila Archives celebrates some of those moments from the company’s first 25 years through this series.

Ballet accompanied by a pop song is often the first introduction of the younger generation to classical dance. This tool has been harnessed extensively by Ballet Manila (BM) with its signature Ballet & Ballads shows. This concert series features Original Pilipino Music (OPM) accompanying BM dancers performing contemporary pieces using classical dance techniques.

In celebration of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino this week, Ballet Manila Moments will be highlighting some of the most successful collaborations between BM and OPM.

In this clip is a choreography by Jonathan Janolo set to a medley of music by the legendary Rey Valera: Pangako sa ‘Yo, Tayong Dalawa, and Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.
