Ballet Manila Moments: Pinoy pride in original ballet and OPM

Ballet Manila Moments: Pinoy pride in original ballet and OPM

Since 1995, Ballet Manila has been creating unforgettable performances on stage. As the acclaimed storytellers on toes, they have breathed life to an amazing range of classical and contemporary fare. The Ballet Manila Archives celebrates some of those moments from the company’s first 25 years through this series.

Time and again, Ballet Manila has heralded its pride in its Filipino roots through dance. But with its Ballet & Ballads concert series, the company has found a fun way to celebrate Pinoy pride by combining contemporary choreography with Original Pilipino Music.

It was in this spirit that Jonathan Janolo choreographed Pinoy Ako for the company’s 2013 Valentine offering, Ballet & Ballads with Christian Bautista. This piece infused the Filipino’s love for ballroom dancing with classical ballet techniques while being accompanied by Orange and Lemons’ hit song, Pinoy Ako.

In this clip is Pinoy Ako, the second installment of Ballet Manila Moments’ celebration of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino.
