Love conquers all in 'Ang Prinsipe ng mga Ibon'

Love conquers all in 'Ang Prinsipe ng mga Ibon'

A love that conquers all is at the heart of Ang Prinsipe ng mga Ibon. This love story – one of the many tales from Severino Reyes’ Lola Basyang collection – brings together a human princess and a bird prince  in a seemingly impossible romantic union. But love always finds a way. Despite the King’s objections and a threat to the kingdom, the couple stay true and eventually live happily ever after.

Ballet Manila is set to restage this literary classic – based on author Christine Bellen-Ang’s retelling of the story published by Anvil Publishing – as choreographed by the company’s late co-artistic director, Osias Barroso Jr. For this ballet, he wove classical dance techniques with the music of Nicanor Abelardo, and National Artists Antonino Buenaventura, Levi Celerio and Lucrecia Kasilag as arranged by Mon Faustino.

In this clip from 2009, artistic director Lisa Macuja Elizalde and Rudy De Dios as the princess and the prince are seen celebrating with the people as the kingdom is saved from their enemies by the bird prince and his feathered friends.

Ang Prinsipe ng mga Ibon is part of Tatlong Kuwento ni Lola Basyang along with Ang Kapatid ng Tatlong Marya and Ang Mahiwagang Biyulin. Tatlong Kuwento ni Lola Basyang will have performances at Aliw Theater on: May 11, Saturday, 8 p.m.; May 12, Sunday, 5 p.m.; and May 18, Saturday, 5 p.m.
