Romeo Peralta

A true blue Ballet Manila baby, Romeo Peralta began his training in 2000 as a scholar of the BM School under Jeffrey Espejo. He moved on to the special boys’ class under BM co-artistic director Osias Barroso and was promoted to company apprentice in 2003. He became a company member in 2004, a soloist in 2011, and a senior soloist in 2012. In 2017, he was promoted to principal dancer.

He had the privilege to attend the special Vaganova Method class of visiting teacher, Merited Artist of Russia Tatiana A. Udalenkova. He has also worked with Russian mentors such as People’s Artist of Russia Sergey Vikulov, Viktor Saveliev, Irina Sitnikov, Evgeny Scherbakov, and Natasha Radulgina. 

Romeo won the bronze medal in the Pas de Deux Division and was a semi-finalist in the Senior Division of the 2015 Asian Grand Prix International Ballet Competition in Hong Kong. He also received the Outstanding Featured Male for Modern Dance award in the 2017 Philstage Gawad Buhay for his performance as Prince Diego in Gerardo Francisco’s Ibong Adarna.

He was also a finalist in the 2004 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) dance category and a participant in the Junior Division of the 10th Asian Pacific International Ballet Competition in Tokyo in 2005.

Romeo has taken the lead in many of the company’s season performances such as Albrecht in Giselle, Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, the Prince in The Nutcracker, Prince Philip in Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s The Sleeping Beauty, Don Jose in Eric V. Cruz’s Carmen, the Prince in Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s Snow White, and Alfredo in Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s La Traviata.

He was Lankadem and Birbanto in Le Corsaire, Solor in La Bayadere (The Kingdom of the Shades), Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo in Sergey Vikulov’s Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt in both Sergey Vikulov’s and Paul Vasterling’s Romeo and Juliet, Poet in Les Sylphides, and Prince Diego in Gerardo Francisco Jr.’s Ibong Adarna.

He has also danced the main parts of contemporary works by Augustus “Bam” Damian III (El Adwa, Scarlet, The Last Poem, Reconfigured, Aramica, Rebel, Ilsa-Dyur, Widmung), Martin Lawrance (Misfit or Maverick, Rebel, Aria, Winding Road) Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Bloom), Jonathan Watkins (Present Process), Max Luna (Alon ng Buwan), Manny Molina (Buenos Aires, The Light), Agnes Locsin (Arachnida, Agila, Sayaw sa Pamlang, Urbanatives), David Campos-Cantero (Velvet Wings), Ric Culalic (Arnis), Hazel Sabas (Deconstructing Gershwin), Ernest Mandap (El Sol), Tony Fabella (Dancing to Verdi, Dancing to Czerny), Eric V. Cruz (Visions in Blue), and Gerardo Francisco Jr. (Morions).

He has also represented Ballet Manila and the Philippines as a member of the company’s delegation to various international tours and performances including in Scotland, the United States, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cambodia, Singapore, Macau, Hongkong, Vietnam, Israel, and Malaysia.
