The first Swan of Ballet Manila

The first Swan of Ballet Manila

It was a role she was repeatedly told was not meant for her. But like her entire career, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde proved the ballet world wrong. She became a swan and made the dual role of Odette and Odile her own. Donning both the white and the black tutus in a dancing career that spanned over three decades, she was partnered in Swan Lake by internationally-renowned danseurs from Russia, the United States, and the Philippines.

For its second offering in its 22nd performance season, Ballet Manila is bringing back Swan Lake with three new Swans: principal dancer Katherine Barkman, and soloists Abigail Oliveiro and Joan Emery Sia. Joining them as Prince Siegfrieds are principal dancer Rudy De Dios, soloists Mark Sumaylo, Romeo Peralta and Elpidio Magat, and guest artist Joseph Phillips.

Tickets to Ballet Manila’s Swan Lake are available at all Ticketworld outlets; call 891-9999 or visit www.ticketworld.com.ph. For more information, call 525-5967.
