'Giselle' comes home

'Giselle' comes home

Giselle is home! The classical piece that was performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines following a fire that gutted the Star City complex in 2019 finally made its way back to Aliw Theater last weekend.

Leading the charge were Mariinsky Ballet principal dancer Renata Shakirova and soloist Alexei Timofeyev as Giselle and Albrecht. Alternating with them were Ballet Manila principal dancers Abigail Oliveiro and Mark Sumaylo.

Mark also took on the role of Hilarion, alternating with principal dancer Romeo Peralta Jr.

Debuting as Myrtha was Stephanie Santiago who was promoted to soloist for her stellar performance.

Alternating in the peasant pas de deux were principal dancers Shaira Comeros and Joshua Enciso, and principal dancer Jasmine Pia Dames and company artist Rafael Perez.

In this slideshow are photographs of the performances with Ballet Manila continuing the legacy of the Vaganova method and upholding the highest standards of excellence in the classics.
